NL MVP Picks & Prediction
Ronald Acuna Jr., Atlanta Braves
We took Ronald Acuna Jr. to win the NL MVP award before the start of the 2023 season, expcting him to perform well for a Braves team that should be among the best in the National League. So far, so good. Acuna has moved up to the top of the list of NL MVP favorites, and we like him to continue moving in the right direction toward this award throughout the season.
Pete Alonso, New York Mets
Pete Alonso has been absolutely mashing early this season for the New York Mets. While the Mets are looking up at the Atlanta Braves in the National League East standings, Alonso’s individual numbers have been very impressive. He could end up in a race with division rival Ronald Acuna Jr. of the Atlanta Braves in the race for the MVP if Alonso can keep his power hitting pace up.
Mookie Betts, Los Angeles Dodgers
If the Los Angeles Dodgers are going to live up to their high expectations this season, Mookie Betts is going to be a huge reason why. The Dodgers lost several talented players in the offseason, including Trea Turner, which will mean that Betts has to do more if they are going to have a big year in the NL West. So far, Betts has been great at the top of the Dodgers lineup, and he should be in the MVP mix all year long.
Freddie Freeman, Los Angeles Dodgers
Joining Betts in the NL MVP race from the Dodgers is Freddie Freeman, who is in contention to lead the league in hits this season. Freeman can hit for both average and power, making him a unique contributor both on the Dodgers and in all of baseball. If Freeman can continue to be one of the leading hitters in baseball during the remainder of the year, he could sneak ahead of the rest of the pack and grab the NL MVP award for himself.
Who Will Win NL MVP?
We like Ronald Acuna to win this award this season, provided that he stays healthy for the entire 2023 campaign. The Braves will pile up a ton of wins this year, and an improvement in Acuna’s numbers from last season will put him into immediate consideration to win this award on what should be a first place team. He is certainly a better value than any of the Padres contenders, who will take votes from each other.
