The race for Buenos Aires online licenses is heating up with the arrival of three additional international names: Betsson, 888 and Sisal. They will be in contention for one of seven iGaming licenses that this capital province of Argentina will be handing out.

Their applications are among the last ones to arrive, as the registration window for the licensing process expires on Tuesday, June 25th.

Who Partnered With Who

Before pursuing their Argentinian licenses…

…Betsson, 888 (and its Cassava Enterprises subsidiary) and Sisal from Italy have managed to find local operator partners and ink cooperation agreements with them.

In the case of Betsson, their Buenos Aires partner will be Casino de Victoria – a land-based casino. 888 has teamed up with lottery and land-based casino operator, Boldt. Whereas Sisal clinched deals with two businesses – Areltown and El Charelo.

International All-Star Line-Up

Fifteen entities will, in total, compete for seven licenses.

A bevy of international operators preceded this trio in their pursuit for Buenos Aires’ place under the iGaming sun…

…and some of those are The Stars Group, which has entered into a partnership with Atlantica de Juegos, William Hill, who cooperates with ArgenBingo, Flutter Entertainment in conjunction with Bingo Pilar, Intralot with BinBaires and Playtech with Hotel Casino Tandil.

Among these is also bet365, which has agreed a collaboration with Pasteko, Betway, which partnered with Bingo King and Codere with their partner Iberargen, slot and bingo operator.

Although most domestic brands have found an international partner…

…two of them, Biyemas and Slots Machines, have decided to go it alone, without a globally established partner.

The Quick Procedure Since Legalization

The seven iGaming licenses will each last 15 years…

…and will be eligible for all gambling verticals. The licensees will need to pay a $1.5 million license fee and a 25% tax on gross gaming revenue. The application window expired at 11 AM Buenos Aires time on June 25th.

In early April, Buenos Aires governor, Maria Eugenia Vidal, signed a decree that effectively legalized online gambling.

Decree 181 – the iGaming legislation in question – was approved by the local government in December last year. The document abides operators to provide a strategy for responsible gambling and to integrate systems with region’s self-exclusion scheme.

There will be a new regulatory body instated to oversee all gambling operations – The Buenos Aires Provincial Institute of Lottery and Casinos.
