The Arizona Diamondbacks have been one of the bright surprises in baseball this year.
Arizona (39-25, 19-11 away) will try to put the finishing touches on a three-game sweep of the reeling Detroit Tigers (26-36, 14-15 home), who have been battered in the first two games of this series, and have now lost eight straight.
Nick Ahmed and Lourdes Gurriel both went yard Saturday, as the D-backs thumped Detroit 5-0, as Ryne Nelson and three relievers held Detroit off the scoreboard on just six hits.
The finale goes Sunday (June 11) at 11:35am ET from Comerica Park in Detroit, MI. You can watch the game live on Peacock.

Probable Pitchers
When it rains it pours, and Detroit will have to contend with Zac Gallen in the finale. At 7-2, he’s tied for the third-most wins in the majors, 12th in ERA among starters (2.75), and 12th in strikeouts (88).

— Rob Friedman (@PitchingNinja) May 31, 2023
He last pitched against the Braves in a no-decision, going six innings, giving up two earned runs on nine hits, striking out six and walking just one in an 8-5 loss.
Gallen picked up his seventh win the previous start, giving up no earned runs, scattering five hits across six innings, with seven punch-outs in a 5-1 win over the Rockies. It’s his first-ever start against the Tigers.
Gallen vs Wentz Stats
7-2 | Record | 1-6 |
2.75 | ERA | 7.49 |
1.08 | WHIP | 1.76 |
.273 | OBA | .378 |
5.18 | SO/W Ratio | 2.00 |
It’s been a rough go for Went, who was brought into the starting rotation to help a depleted pitching staff. He has three losses and a no-decision in his last four starts, and a rough 7.49 ERA.
Wentz was tagged for seven hits and five earned runs in just 4.2 innings of work in an 8-3 loss to the Phillies last time out.
The lefty also gave up a season-high five walks against four strikeouts, and was taken yard twice. He will be facing Arizona for the first time in his career as well.
Arizona vs Detroit Player Prop Picks
If you’re looking for player props to spice up this matchup, look no further than Corbin Caroll. The outfielder is currently the betting favorite in the NL Rookie of the Year odds, and picked up three hits in the win.
He’s now had a hit in 18 of his last 22 games. He’s getting +111 odds to go over 1.5 total bases, and should hit the over.

The other prop on our radar is Gallen’s strikeout total. He’s only gone under six strikeouts three times in 13 starts this season. The Tigers are middle of the pack in strikeouts, but they’ve fanned 14 times across two games in this series. Gallen is getting -108 odds to go over 6.5 k’s.
Diamondbacks vs Tigers Prediction
A struggling pitcher like Wentz is going to have a hard time with Arizona’s lineup. The Diamondbacks are fifth in runs scored in the bigs, putting up 5.14 runs per contest, and are third in batting as a team (.263).
They’re top-five in both OPS (.764) and slugging percentage (.436), with Carroll and Gurriel inside the top-11 of OPS individually. They’re the catalysts of the offence, both hitting over .300. Gurriel has 10 HR and 38 RBI, with Carroll at 13 dingers and 38 RBIs.
