As many punters and fans of Horse Racing around the Globe are aware, Frankie Dettori is hanging it up at the end of the year and ahead of his final rides in the Oaks and Derby, he sat down with Betfred ambassador Frankie Foster to talk about his decision to call it a day and his chance in the two feature races of the weekend…
I won’t spoil the whole interview, it is well worth just over 21 minutes of his time to find out a little bit more about one of the most famous and likeable people in all of sport but it should come as no surprise that Frankie wanted to be a football player growing up. I think that is the dream of a lot of boys but as he reminisces, everyone else grew up and he didn’t so that wasn’t to be his calling but he still follows Juventus back in Italy and Arsenal over here in the UK.
He talks about his greatest memory and spoiler alert, it is exactly what everyone would guess it was, the time he won all seven races on the card at Ascot back in 1996. That was quite some achievement along with his memories of finally winning the Derby at his 15th attempt back in 2007 but you can listen to all of his thoughts via the video embedded at the bottom of the page.
Looking ahead to the two big races this weekend and Dettori really likes the turn of speed he has with second-favourite Soul Sister in the Oaks on Friday afternoon although he can see the form of favourite Savethelastdance, so knows it’ll be quite a race.
As for the Betfred Derby, like many pundits (and the betting markets) he can see a very open race with four clear favourites at the top of the odds charts. He says Arrest has done nothing wrong and he wouldn’t swap his ride for any of the other horses in the race.
