There’s a good seven-race National Hunt card at Southwell on Tuesday afternoon and punters will welcome the competitive field sizes.
The action is highlighted by an interesting maiden hurdle at 15:45 and a two-and-a-half mile handicap hurdle at 16:20.
Southwell’s card is one of four on Tuesday, with alternative afternoon action coming from Leicester, while Lingfield (AW) and Wetherby host the evening’s entertainment.

14:45 – Limerick Leader @ EVS
Limerick Leader goes for Rose Dobbin in the two-mile-four-and-a-half furlong handicap chase at 14:45 and the six-year-old looks to hold a big chance.
The son of Joshua Tree ran a blinder when second to the Ben Haslam-trained Marshalled last time out and Haslam’s charge has since gone on to be beaten by only a neck when upped in grade at Cartmel. That looks pretty strong form in the context of this race.
The nice ground suits Limerick Leader, as does the stiff Southwell circuit. The six-year-old’s mark of 104 looks workable and he can continue his budding partnership with Dylan Johnston.
16:20 – Kincardine @ 6/1
Kincardine was very disappointing when tailing off at Ludlow last time out and trainer Nicky Henderson was unable to find an explanation for the six-year-old’s poor effort in Shropshire.
However, victories at Exeter and Newbury suggested that Henderson’s charge was on the rise and the son of Kayf Tara should have more to offer.
Kincardine is by no means a consistent performer, but a flat track seems to bring the best out of the six-year-old and he won at this course on his rules debut in May 2021.
The gelding has had only nine starts but there appears scope for improvement and it may come at Southwell on Tuesday where connections have the added bonus of having Nico De Boinville on board.
17:20 – Champ Royal @ 10/1
Champ Royal caught the eye on debut for Neil Mulholland at Taunton two starts ago, and while that promise wasn’t built on at Ffos Las, the seven-year-old has been dropped six pounds for those two runs.
The seven-year-old travelled sweetly before not being given a hard time and dropping out at Taunton, leaving the impression that there could be more to come from this son of Masterstroke.
Mulholland’s charge had previously shown a decent level of form, without winning, for Colm Murphy in Ireland.
With Sam Twiston-Davies on board, it may be that the gelding can get his head in front for the first time on Tuesday.
