Titans superstar Derrick Henry ‘not worried’ about trade rumors

Throughout much of the offseason, Tennessee Titans star running back Derrick Henry has dealt with lingering trade rumors.

Henry pushed back at that notion by voicing he spoke to Ran Carthon while his focus remains on the football field.

“Talking to him, meeting him in person. I’ve put a face with the name,” Henry said in his first public comments this offseason via ESPN. “Just doing all of those things. When we get to football, we’re not worried about that other stuff.”

The 29-year-old is coming off another highly productive campaign, posting 1,538 rushing yards, but the doubt around his future circles around his $16.3 million cap hit for the 2023 season.

Although he’s continuing to play at an elite level, he’s nearing the typical age range where a running back’s production declines. The Titans are not anticipating his decline just yet, but the team is aware of the options moving beyond the 2023 season.

He’s in the final year of his four-year, $50 million deal that could mark his last campaign with Tennessee. If he’s still producing at a high level, the team will want him back, but likely at a reduced rate.

However, the reported trade chatter the organization is exploring its options while his value remains high. Henry has posted more than 1,500 rushing yards in three out of the last four seasons.

The Titans will continue to run the offense primarily through Henry, but any slip-up in production could see his future alter drastically.

It’s a situation to monitor closely as much change could be on the horizon.
