Top 5 Underrated Taylor Swift Songs

Today, Taylor Swift is one of my most listened-to artists but this wasn’t the case 17 years ago. 2008, a time when every music channel was playing Love Story by Taylor Swift probably 100 times a day. I vividly remember hearing that song once and immediately disliking it. Then every time that song used to play, I wasted no time in switching the channel. Now let’s quickly move forward to 2015 and I heard the song bad blood somewhere. When I got home, I quickly searched the song on YouTube. Imagine my shock when I saw Bad Blood by Taylor Swift as the title.

1989 was the album that many Taylor fans would call the best. However, the album that turned me into full-blown Swiftie was Reputation. This was the album that in my eyes made Taylor a true music icon. This was something nobody could have imagined when they first hear all the love songs. She truly shed the image that was created by the media for her. Reputation was something beyond love or breakup songs, it was an artist reaching her full potential. For me, that was an artist at her finest. After this, I probably heard every song by Taylor, and below I will tell my Top 5 underrated Taylor Swift songs:

5. Wonderland

First up is “Wonderland.” It begins with a whimsical melody that immediately transports you to a world where fantasy and reality intertwine. The lyrics paint a vivid picture of a tumultuous relationship, where Taylor unapologetically questions the concept of happily-ever-afters. Taylor’s lyrics have always been her strongest suit and songs like Wonderland drives home the point why she is one of the best songwriters today.

4. This Is Me Trying

Next on the list is “This Is Me Trying.” As the piano chords start, you can feel the raw vulnerability in Taylor’s voice. The song explores themes of resilience and self-forgiveness, reminding us that even in our darkest moments, there is always a glimmer of hope. The hauntingly beautiful melody and Taylor’s introspective lyrics make “This Is Me Trying” an emotional rollercoaster that deserves more recognition.

3. King Of My Heart

Now, let’s talk about “King Of My Heart.” This infectious track takes you on a joyous journey through the early stages of a blossoming romance. Taylor’s playful lyrics and infectious energy create an irresistible atmosphere that will make you want to dance your heart out. With its catchy chorus and undeniable charm, “King Of My Heart” is a hidden gem that deserves to be sung at the top of our lungs.

2. Mad Woman

Moving on, we have “Mad Woman.” This song showcases Taylor’s prowess as a songwriter and storyteller. Extremely powerfully angry lyrics are sung in such a calm manner. It’s a powerful anthem that challenges societal expectations and explores themes of anger, betrayal, and female empowerment. The haunting instrumentation and Taylor’s emotive vocals make “Mad Woman” an underrated masterpiece that deserves more attention.

1. Willow

Last but not least, we have “Willow.” While this song gained some recognition upon its release, it still remains underrated in the grand scheme of Taylor’s discography. “Willow” is a whimsical, enchanting track that invites listeners to lose themselves in a mystical realm of love and devotion. It’s dreamy melody and poetic lyrics evoke a sense of longing and desire, making it a standout track that deserves more love.

When I say underrated I mean they are underrated according to me. Some of her songs are so wildly successful whereas these songs are equally good but just not as popular. If I was making this list some 4 years back, it would include songs like Cruel Summer, Gorgeous, and Don’t Blame Me but now thanks to TikTok and Netflix soundtracks, those hidden gems have been discovered!
