After nearly ten months of construction, the pit building for the Las Vegas F1 Race is nearly complete. The 300,000-square-foot facility will house the pit lane, the team garages, and the VIP hospitality space and is placed alongside the start/finish line. Event organizers are saying that the Pit Building is roughly 95% complete and is on track to be completed in time for the race, which is happening on the 19th of November, 2023.
Work Nears Completion
As for the rest of the circuit, changes have been coming along slowly but are also nearing completion. Most grandstands along the 3.8-mile course are complete, including those across from the Pit Building. There is one final hurdle that needs to be completed: getting the green light from Formula One.
Closer to the race weekend, the FIA (Formula One’s Governing body) will need to do a complete track inspection. They will need to inspect every inch of the track and ensure it meets all rules and regulations. However, the FIA has remained in close contact with the event organizers and has regularly visited to check progress. Ultimately, this should be nothing more than a formality.
Pit Building Quietly Renamed
The Pit Building has also been renamed. Originally, it was referred to as the Paddock Building, which housed the Paddock Club. However, it was pointed out that the gunman responsible for the worst mass shooting in the USA, which happened in Las Vegas, was Stephen Paddock. When it comes to racing, paddock is normal terminology for a team’s garage, but it does have problematic connotations for Las Vegas.
Track Construction Causes Complaints
While the F1 race is sure to bring plenty of benefits to Las Vegas, the preparations for the race haven’t been popular with residents. Residents have been complaining for months about how the work on the race has caused massive traffic jams on the Strip. Things are expected to be even worse on race weekend, as road closures will be required for nine hours each day of the race event.
