- Roma to beat Genoa – 11/10
There is a full raft of Serie A games taking place in midweek but it’s the game in Genoa on Thursday night (19:45) that tickles my fancy.
Jose Mourinho’s Roma side make the 500km journey up the coast to the Stadio Luigi Ferraris, hoping to ignite their stuttering start to the season.
Both Roma and Genoa have won just a solitary game from their opening five matches and are sat in 13th and 16th respectively.
Alberto Gilardino’s men picked up an impressive early away win at Lazio but have also fallen to three defeats, including a 1-0 loss to Lecce last time out.
Meanwhile, Roma absolutely thumped rock-bottom Empoli 7-0 just over a week ago but were held to a 1-1 draw against Torino at the weekend.
Nevertheless, the Giallorossi should have too much quality here for a Genoa outfit that have struggled badly to score goals.
Genoa are newly promoted and Roma finished in 6th spot in Serie A last season, so there should be a gulf in ability between the two sides.
I’m taking Roma to grab a narrow victory on the road and start moving up towards the European positions.
