Kempton Park Tips: Third time lucky for Grand Providence

Kempton Park Tips: Third time lucky for Grand Providence

Kempton’s eight-race card is the busiest of the seven meetings on Wednesday and readers can watch all the action between 17:05 and 20:45.

The going will be standard to slow on the polytrack and we have picked out three tips for the Surrey card, with one of them hoping to shed the maiden tag at the third time of asking.

18:10 – Grand Providence @ 3/1

Andrew Balding may not have been able to get GRAND PROVIDENCE to win just yet, but the early signs are positive after the three-year-old made her debut in April.

The daughter of Nathaniel has shown plenty of promise on both of her runs so far and she ultimately has the best form in this contest, a Fillies’ Novice Stakes over 1m3f.

Five of the field on Wednesday will race for the first time and that race-day experience should be enough for Balding’s runner to get the job done.

The three-year-old has finished third on both of her career outings and this is a huge chance for this daughter of a highly-regarded Group 1 winner to get on the board.

19:10 – Tawalla @ 9/2

Charlie Fellowes and his team struck gold last time out with TAWALLA, as the three-year-old won for the first time at Ripon.

Tawalla started his career with a sixth-placed effort at Chelmsford, but connections waited and brought the son of Invincible Spirit back in April.

At 14/1, he finished second to Changeofmind at Catterick before finally shedding the maiden tag at Ripon last month.

Wednesday’s race, which carries Betfred’s Super Extra Place Race, will be the biggest of Tawalla’s career in terms of numbers, but his opening mark looks more than workable.

Back on the all-weather, he is in good hands under Jamie Spencer and if he can settle down, he should be the one to beat at Kempton.

Horse Racing Odds

20:45 – Devizes @ 13/2

Pat Phelan will have been disappointed with DEVIZES’ performance last time out, with the seven-year-old only finishing 10th at Newbury in May.

A return to a synthetic surface should help him settle and feel at home, but he will have to overcome top weight in the finale on Wednesday.

Devizes has placed over C&D in the past and that is a big bonus, especially when some of his competitors have struggled to put performances together.

He will need a fast start from a wide draw, but after winning at 33/1 on his last visit to Kempton, it is very hard to overlook him for Wednesday’s meeting.
