Saturday Racing Tips: Expert Choice the pick at Beverley

Saturday Racing Tips: Expert Choice the pick at Beverley

There’s another busy day of racing action ahead on Saturday, with eight meetings taking place across Britain and Ireland.

The Eclipse at Sandown is the headline act, with key support from Haydock’s Lancashire Oaks card. Further Flat racing takes place at Beverley, Carlisle, Leicester, Nottingham and Naas, while jumps racing comes from Bellewstown.

Our Saturday fancies include a once-raced colt for Richard Fahey with a strong chance of opening his account at Beverley.

Selections

  • Beverley 2.15 – Expert Choice @ 6/4
  • Nottingham 6.42 – Fusterlandia @ 15/8
  • Haydock 3.50 – Notta Nother @ 13/2

Tip 1

The Richard Fahey-trained EXPERT CHOICE (6/4) should be good enough to land this novice event over 7½-furlongs that opens the card at Beverley.

The well-bred colt finished second on debut at Pontefract in May over 6f, staying on to be beaten less than a length by all-the-way winner Muqtahem from the George Boughey team.

The winner had the benefit of a previous run at Hamilton under his belt and has since run as well as might have been expected when midfield in the Windsor Castle at Royal Ascot at 33/1.

Expert Choice closed on him late on in that Pontefract event but couldn’t bridge the gap, though he did in turn put 2½-lengths between himself and the third.

Going up in trip now looks a positive and with normal first-to-second run improvement he should be hard to beat in a race that lacks strength and depth.

Tip 2

Evening fare on the level comes from Nottingham and the Richard Hannon team will be confident that FUSTERLANDIA (15/8) has the capabilities to open his account in the 5f novice that is race two on the card.

The Mehmas colt posted runner-up finishes at Leicester (6f, good to firm) and Beverley (5f, good to firm) to begin his career. The second of those starts was in a Conditions race and he was only headed late on by a smart-looking sort from the Richard Fahey string in Bombay Bazaar.

Both were deemed worthy afterwards of trips to Royal Ascot where they were well weld in the white heat of the Windsor Castle, though Fusterlandia did reverse the placings with his old rival.

Dropping from that to a Class 4 novice at Nottingham is a significant ease in grade and Cieren Fallon’s partner looks to hold strong claims in this company based on what he has shown so far ability-wise.

Tip 3

A competitive nursery over 6f at Haydock this afternoon and once in which Mayo Neighs has assumed favouritism after he followed a debut win at Bath in May with a decent showing at Royal Ascot last month.

He’s got a lively chance for the Ralph Beckett team, but so too should NOTTA NOTHER (13/2) for Richard Hannon and Sean Levey.

The Havana Grey colt has improved in each of three runs so far and duly opened his account in a Goodwood maiden (5f, good) 15 days ago.

There were only five runners in that contest but, despite that, Notta Nother met his share of trouble late on and he had to explore several avenues before getting a clear passage to make his challenge.

He was brave in going through a gap and powered home for a win that was perhaps more decisive than the neck-margin suggests.

He looks like a colt who will go on to improve still further and he gets 5lb from the market leader here, ensuring he’s put forward to land what might be the first leg of an across-the-cards double for Team Hannon on Saturday.
