Shaare Zedek Medical Center in Jerusalem has unveiled its new Helmsley Cancer Center, designed by architect Tye Farrow.

The centre consolidates all Shaare Zedek’s oncological services, including medical, radiotherapy, counselling, spiritual, and palliative care, under one roof.

The six-floor, 12,000m² facility features technologies, such as an advanced CT suite along with four linear accelerators for radiation therapy, reported timesofisrael.com.

Named after the Helmsley Charitable Trust, the nearly $100m centre aims to provide outpatient care while oncological surgery is still being carried out in the main building of Shaare Zedek.

According to the American Committee for Shaare Zedek Medical Center in Jerusalem website: The upper floors of the facility will house treatment areas for outpatient care, a dedicated Oncology Day Hospital, and research and teaching facilities.

The centre’s external design, featuring a distinctive Butterfly shape, is still being completed. Its unique features include a garden on the bottom floor and natural light integration into the radiation therapy area.

The design incorporates curved wood, natural light, and a serene ambiance to create a healing environment.

In addition, the facility aims to reduce patient anxiety by incorporating videos, music, and tactile experiences into the radiotherapy area.

Shaare Zedek director general Ofer Merin said: “This is a truly emotional moment that can provide the countless people involved in making it happen with a sense of deep satisfaction.

“The greatest beneficiaries will be the medical community of Jerusalem and the surrounding areas who will be able to count on cancer care centre on par with the world’s leading facilities.”
