Sheff Wed vs Leeds Prediction: The Owls can get a result in this Yorkshire derby

hillsborough sheffield wednesday

Sheffield Wednesday host Leeds United at Hillsborough on Friday night (20:00) in the Championship, live on Sky Sports Main Event. The Owls are looking for their fifth-straight victory as they look to avoid an immediate return to League One.

Leeds are gunning for automatic promotion to the Premier League and have won 10 of their last 11 matches in the second tier. There could be huge ramifications at both ends of the table following the outcome of this clash. Here are our Sheff Wed vs Leeds predictions, featuring team news and generic match odds on offer for the game.

Sheffield Wednesday vs Leeds Betting Tips

  • Sheffield Wednesday or draw @ 6/5
  • Ike Ugbo to score anytime @ 13/5

Match Odds

Sheffield Wednesday are at the enticing price of 4/1 to upset their Yorkshire rivals. Leeds are the 8/13 favourites to win this contest, while a draw can be backed at 3/1. Both teams to score is on offer at 8/11 and over 2.5 goals is marketed at the same odds.

Leeds winger Crysencio Summerville has scored 15 times in the league this season and he is valued at 8/5 to find the back of the net anytime on Friday night.

Team News

The Owls have two injuries to deal with heading into this one with Josh Windass and Callum Paterson sidelined. Winger Ian Poveda is not going to take part either as he is not permitted to face his parent club.

Leeds boss Daniel Farke has two players himself who he cannot call upon due to injury in Pascal Struijk and Stuart Dallas. In the former’s absence, Ethan Amapadu looks set to continue his deeper role in the back line to partner Joe Rodon.

Sheffield Wednesday or draw @ 6/5

Ever since Danny Rohl stepped through the door at Hillsborough, there has been a lot more fight and better football from the Owls, who looked completely lost under his predecessor Xisco Munoz.

The German has had to be patient in turning performances into wins but he looks to have cracked the code now as they have won four on the spin to move to within a point of safety. A victory over high-flying Leeds would only increase their chances of survival, and we do fancy them to get a result here.

Leeds could only put one goal past fellow strugglers Stoke City and Huddersfield Town in their last two outings, picking up a win and a draw respectively. Against the Terriers, they were up against 10 men for the majority of the second half. So it’s fair to say, they are struggling to be as free-scoring as they have been all season against the teams fighting for their lives to stay in the division.

With the Owls at home in front of a packed-out home crowd and in form, we do think that they can get another huge result in their survival mission which will fire yet another warning to the teams around them.

However, we can also see Leeds looking to pick up their goalscoring slack of the last two games as they seek to secure second position in the table. Even with that in mind, we still fancy Sheffield Wednesday to come out of this game with a point at least. Rohl has instilled belief into the players and fans and Hillsborough is going to be a tough place for the Whites to visit, and it might just unsettle them.

Sheffield Wednesday or draw at 6/5

Ike Ugbo to score anytime @ 13/5

One player who has been pivotal in Wednesday’s recent run is striker Ike Ugbo. Having joined the Owls on loan in January, he has scored six goals in nine appearances in the league, and those six have come in as many games.

The former Chelsea forward has netted braces against Birmingham City and Bristol City, so he is one of the most in-form players in the Championship right now. In a game with huge stakes at both ends of the table, we’re expecting him to thrive off this pressure and continue his impressive scoring run.

Ike Ugbo to score anytime at 13/5
