Stoke vs Leeds Prediction: Whites can win another entertaining tussle

  • By Admin

Four wins in their last five in the league have propelled Daniel Farke’s Leeds United to where they want to be in the Championship, right amongst the promotion hopefuls.

The Whites came from 0-2 at half-time in Saturday’s win over Norwich City at Carrow Road, a result that lifted them up to third spot ahead of this midweek round of fixtures commencing on Tuesday.

Stoke City, meanwhile, languish close to the relegation places but come into this game boosted by their 2-1 win at home to Sunderland.

This should be a typically frantic Championship evening in the Potteries and Leeds may well leave with three more points.

Stoke vs Leeds Prediction

  • Leeds to win and Over 2.5 Goals @ 15/8
  • Crysencio Summerville to score first @ 7/1

Team News

Stoke boss Alex Neil got some relief during the recent international window as some of his injury worries were eased.

The likes of Emre Tezgel, Lewis Baker and Ben Wilmot remain sidelined, while Josh Laurent may hope for a return to the starting side after impressing when he came off the bench on Saturday.

The visitors will be without the injured trio of Djed Spence, Junior Firpo and Stuart Dallas.

Leeds boss Farke had the luxury of bringing the likes of Luke Ayling, Willy Gnonto and Patrick Bamford off the bench against Norwich and they may all push for inclusion from the start now.

Match Odds

After their recent run of form has yielded four wins in five, Leeds are 10/11 favourites for this trip to face Stoke.

The home side should be buoyed by that weekend win over Sunderland and are priced at 12/5 to engineer their first back-to-back league wins of the season.

Stoke haven’t had a home draw in six Championship games this season so far and that outcome is priced at 5/2 here.

Over 3.5 goals has landed in a third of Stoke’s dozen league games so far and is priced at 7/4 for this midweek tussle. Leeds have won the previous three league meetings with Stoke by aggregate score of 8-0 and are priced at 15/8 to keep a clean sheet here.

Leeds to win and Over 2.5 Goals @ 15/8

Stoke’s win over Sunderland on Saturday was a welcome outcome for boss Neil. His side have been very hit and miss so far, mixing four wins in 12 games with seven losses.

They have already lost at home to Preston, Hull and Southampton. Leeds, meanwhile, have gathered three wins from six on the road, a decent return.

Those three wins at Ipswich, Millwall and Norwich have seen the Yorkshire side score ten goals as they re-establish themselves as entertainers back in the second tier.

Leeds went into this round of games already six points behind second-placed Ipswich, despite that win over the Tractor Boys and the fact they’ve played a game more.

A further six points split the teams from third to 15th in the congested Championship table and Farke will know full well this is the sort of game a promotion hopeful should be winning.

There have been over 2.5 goals scored in five of Leeds’ previous seven Championship away games and they can get the best of Stoke with that outcome landing again.

Crysencio Summerville to score first @ 7/1

Twelve months ago this week, Crysencio Summerville was netting a famous winner for Leeds at Anfield. The young Dutchman would in fact score four times in four Premier League games, but his progress was blunted by the break for the World Cup in Qatar and he didn’t score again last season as Leeds went down.

Summerville’s confidence will be up now, with his late brace at Carrow Road on Saturday securing three unlikely points for his team and making it three goals in three games.

His first at Norwich was a brilliant curling effort from 20 yards and he was the catalyst for the win, breaking from just inside the halfway line and once more bending a shot into the far corner, this time low into the net.

He can ride the crest of that wave and get his side up and running at Stoke, where he also appeals at 9/4 in the anytime goalscorer market given his exploits at the weekend.
