Tasting Blue Mountain Estate Cuvee Pinot Blanc and Pinot Gris 2022

Tasting Blue Mountain Estate Cuvee Pinot Blanc and Pinot Gris 2022

BC white wines from the 2022 vintage are slowly being released to the public.  I received the Blue Mountain Estate Cuvée Pinot Blanc and Pinot Gris 2022 wines to review, plus their Sauvignon Blanc 2022, which I will review in a separate article.  Many readers may think of sparkling wine only when they hear Blue Mountain Vineyard and Cellars as they produce top-quality sparkling wines, but they also make wonderful still wines.  Both of these wines are fermented with indigenous yeasts.

My Wine Tasting Notes

Blue Mountain Estate Cuvée Pinot Blanc 2022 (BC $25.90)

Appearance: A pale, clear bright lemon colour.
Nose: Lighter aromas of ripe pear, citrus, crisp apple, and touches of peach, honey and blossom. The aromas are a little stronger with decanting.
Palate: Dry, light body, lean and soft mouthfeel.  Light stone fruit flavours, apricot and peach along with stoniness mid-palate to the finish.  With some air, I also picked up honey and a touch of green fruit. Apple flavour is more prominent with decanting.  The wine becomes smoother and has a thicker mouthfeel as well.
Finish: A medium-plus length finishing with tart stone fruit flavour, some bitterness and stoniness. Less bitterness on the finish and the tart stone fruit turns to more ripe stone fruit flavours.

A wine with a light touch.  Decanting is recommended.

Rating: 4 stars4.5 stars  Lighter aromas of stone fruits, crisp apples, and touches of honey and blossom.  Dry, light body with a soft mouthfeel.  Light stone fruit flavours, plus apple if decanted.  Medium-plus length.

Blue Mountain Estate Cuvée Pinot Gris 2022 (BC $25.90)

Appearance: A bright clear, medium-intensity lemon colour.
Nose: Light aromas, almost closed, of stone fruits, mainly pears. No change to the aromas or intensity with decanting.
Palate: Dry, medium-plus body, round mouthfeel.  Light acidic prickle.  Light flavours of peach, pear skin and peach pit plus a prominent stony mineral taste. The wine has more prominent pear and other stone fruit flavours after decanting, plus less acidic prickle and bitterness toward the finish.
Finish: Medium-plus length finishing with light pear flavours and some bitter almonds. Less bitter almond flavour on the finish after decanting.

A subtle wine that benefits from decanting.

Rating: 4 stars Light aromas and flavours of stone fruits, particularly pears.  Some bitterness and acidic prickle plus stoniness on the palate.  Decant for the best expression of stone fruit flavours.

Where Can I Buy These Wines?

The wines can be purchased through the Blue Mountain website:

The Pinot Gris is listed at Everything Wine stores, but I am not sure of the vintage.
