Top Racecourses In The UK

Horse racing is one of the UK’s favourite sports, and because it’s held in such high regard, it’s led to many wanting to go and watch the action unfold live. Luckily for those people, plenty of great racecourses are scattered around the United Kingdom, and they create a fantastic horse racing experience for everyone in attendance.

Ascot

Ascot is one of two racecourses in the UK that horse racing people in the know will suggest are better than the rest. And a lot of this comes down to the events that take place there, with Royal Ascot, a five-day festival, a prime example. Throughout the season, Ascot will see multiple days of high-quality racing take place, with nine Group 1 races in total, which happen to be some of the most popular events where horse racing betting is concerned.

Cheltenham

Cheltenham is the other racecourse in the United Kingdom that is revered, and like Ascot and Royal Ascot, Cheltenham has the iconic Cheltenham Festival. Across four days in March, with the action beginning on a Tuesday and ending on a Friday, fourteen Grade 1 races will take place, and this festival and races such as the Gold Cup alone are reasons why Cheltenham is a legendary UK-based racecourse.

Epsom

It’s back to flay racing, and this time it’s Epsom that gets a mention. As seen above, a lot of the best racecourses are the ones that have a significant purpose because of the races and events taking place, and everyone will likely have heard of The Epsom Derby, which takes place on the first Saturday in June each year. The track, based in Surrey, comes into its own, especially in the Derby, with an uphill climb and then a downhill finish sure to please those in the stand and trackside watching on.

Newbury

There are several horse racing tracks based in Berkshire, and Newbury is one of them. Unlike some others, the racecourse hosts both National Hunt and flat races, so there will be something to suit everyone in terms of race types. What visitors to Newbury will find is that there are multiple important meetings throughout the year, with the National Hunt meeting featuring the Hennessy Gold Cup in November a prime example.

Haydock

We’re going to finish with another iconic racecourse in the United Kingdom in the form of Haydock. It’s one of two great tracks based on Merseyside, and it’s dual-purpose, so there is jump racing and flat racing taking place throughout the year. Haydock is held in such high esteem in racehorse circles; it’s the track where the first leg of the Chase Triple Crown worth £1 million takes place.

There are nearly sixty racecourses in the UK, with all types of horseracing covered, and one thing is for sure, if you’re a fan of the sport and you want to go and watch it live, you’re going to be spoilt for choice, regardless of where you are in the country at the time. Everywhere is catered for, from Perth in Scotland all the way down to Devon’s Newton Abbot.
