Gaming has been a part of my life for as long as I can remember. I fondly recall the countless hours I spent with my friends huddled around the television, controllers in hand, as we navigated our way through the classic NES games. Later, we would show the same enthusiasm towards our GBA consoles. Personally, the PlayStation 2 held the most special place in my heart. My love for gaming ensured that I was overjoyed to discover the gaming-inspired watches that I present to you today.

TAG Heuer Formula 1 x Mario Kart

The TAG Heuer Formula 1 is one of the most iconic chronographs out there; with its motorsports-inspired design, it’s a watch made for people who live life at full speed.

While a much light-hearted take on racing, Mario Kart has always held the same adrenaline-rushed feeling of adventure in my heart. The most wonderful thing about the game is that you never know the outcome of a race — the leader may fall down to last place within a matter of seconds (I wish I weren’t speaking from experience here).

The TAG Heuer Formula 1 x Mario Kart is a celebration of this feeling of rush and excitement, and every aspect of the watch reflects it. It shares the motorsports-inspired bezel of the Formula 1 watches and features a Mario on his cart on the subdial at 9 o’clock. You can spot the shell, an iconic weapon in the game, at 3 o’clock. The iconic Mario Kart logo is crafted on the crown. It is limited to 3000 pieces which have now been sold out by TAG Heuer.

Equipped with the Calibre 16 automatic movement by TAG Heuer, these watches exhibit prime performance as expected of a racing watch.

The timepiece also comes as a Tourbillon Chronograph – this version is more vibrant and stands out at a glance. The beautiful tourbillon is located at 6 o’clock and features Mario running from the blue shell.

Sadly, you can’t run from the blue shell, Mario.

Seiko Street Fighter V Watches

Seiko has teamed up with Street Fighter V, the latest entry in Capcom’s most famous fighting game series at the time of writing, to release six interesting watches. Based on the Seiko Sports Watch 5, these watches incorporate the color combinations of the designs of the iconic Street Fighter characters that are Ryu, Chun-Li, Ken, Guile, Zangief, and Blanka. With under 10,000 of each watch made, these special edition timepieces feature a day and date window at 3 o’clock and the Seiko logo at 12 o’clock.

The color scheme and the designs on the dial and bezel are different for each character. While the Chun-Li watch features Roman numerals on the bezel and clumped dots on the dial as hour markers, the Ken watch features bold circles and triangles on the dial and multiples of 10 in Arabic numerals on the bezel.

Gucci x Fnatic Watch

Esports has become a giant in the modern era. It boasts views that compete with “real sports” today; there are over 540 million esports viewers today. To compare, basketball has 400 million fans worldwide.

Partnered with the esports team Fnatic, the global esports organization, Gucci released a watch that sold out within 48 hours. The fashion-forward design features a duo-tone diver-inspired bezel that has orange and black colors. The orange hour markers stand out on the black dial. The iconic GG logo is luminescent, just like the hands of the watch.

TAG Heuer Connected x Mario Watch

TAG Heuer has been a key performer in the smartwatch market with their Connected series — these watches boast greater user experience than most smartwatches while being luxuriously fashionable. The different faces on the dial of a TAG Heuer Connected make it greater than just a smartwatch; it is an experience in itself.

With their third generation of Connected watches, TAG Heuer has released a unique collaboration with everyone’s favorite video game character, Mario. The Italian plumber can be spotted at 3 o’clock in his iconic brick-smashing, turtle-crushing stance and feels quite at home with the Connected’s iconic interface. The 45mm case of this watch comes in steel and has intuitive and functional side buttons and a crown; the latter has Mario’s iconic ‘M’ engraved on it, where usually TAG Heuer’s shield is showcased.

One of our favorite features of this special edition Connected is how a Mario model represents the completion of activity goals through the day — Mario says “Hi” at the beginning of the day, grows using a mushroom at 25%, gets out of a pipe at 50%, becomes invincible at 75% using the star first introduced in Super Mario Bros for the NES, and finally climbs down from the iconic finishing pole at 100%. This watch is loaded with fun easter eggs and features such as this that is sure to make the user experience that much more special.

Romain Jerome Tourbillon Pokemon

The Swiss brand is no stranger to making watches that pay tribute to some of the most beloved video games – besides this special timepiece that we cover here, they have created a Space Invaders watch and a Donkey Kong watch, games that players from the original gaming generation are more than familiar with.

They are just as familiar with the revolutionary RPG games that are Pokemon Red, Blue, and Yellow. There is no other feeling similar to picking one of the three iconic starters and starting on your adventure, enjoying Kanto, and even discovering that trading evolves Haunter to Gengar.

The dial features iconic Pokemon such as the beloved Pikachu, the lovable Magicarp, the Gen 1 starter Pokemon and their evolutions, Evee, Meowth, and many more. The lack of hour markers ensures that the entire focus goes to the theme of the timepiece – it is a true love letter to Pokemon.

The tourbillon movement, located at 6 o’clock, features a thunderbolt design, a tribute to the mascot of the franchise.

Hamilton Far Cry 6 Watch

I feel like an older man talking about my love for the older generation games. Here’s a watch for the newer generation of gamers.

Hamilton has released a special watch in collaboration with Far Cry 6, a game made for the eighth generation of gaming consoles. It embodies the distinct tropical feel that has been a standard in the Far Cry franchise. The black dialed watch comes with a 42mm Titanium case that is sure to look at home on most wrists, is water-resistant up to 100 meters, and uses a Calibre H-10 automatic movement. The second hand is red, and the edges of the dial are adorned with detailed markings that emphasize the sporty feeling of the watch, making the timepiece an outdoor essential.
