Perth plays host to seven races on Sunday north of the border, with the first one set for 13:50 and the finale scheduled for 17:05.

Also on our radar is the second race, due off at 14:25, and the third, which is an eight-strong handicap affair at 15:00.

14:25 – Russian Virtue

The second contest on the card at Perth is a 12-strong handicap hurdle in which RUSSIAN VIRTUE (SP) looks like having strong claims in.

He completed a hat-trick over hurdles at Sedgefield in January and then returned to the winners’ enclosure back on the Flat at Newcastle in March.

Russian Virtue has since switched back to hurdles and has maintained his consistent form, finishing third at both Hexham and Kelso recently.

15:00 – Walking The Walk

WALKING THE WALK (SP) has been knocking on the door of late, coming home second on four of his last five runs, and this could finally be the race Gordon Elliot’s charge tastes another victory.

The recent runners-up placings at Downpatrick, Wexford and Down Royal bode well for his return to chasing and Walking The Walk is fancied to get the better of his rivals at Perth.

The main dangers look like coming from Victory Echo (SP) and The Ferry Master (SP), with the former on a hat-trick after recent wins here and at Market Rasen, while the latter won at Kelso last time out, a fortnight ago.

16:05 – Ballykeel

BALLKEEL (SP) got off the mark over fences at Fairyhouse in February was then a very good second at the Punchestown Festival in April.

The seven-year-old fell at Killarney last time but this Sam Morshead Perth Gold Cup Handicap Chase represents a great chance for Elliot to be celebrating another success.

That runners-up at Punchestown in the Grade B Palmerstown House Pat Taaffe Handicap Chase underlined his ability and came after a not-to-be-dismissed midfield finish in the Fulke Walwyn Kim Muir Challenge Cup Amateur Jockeys’ Handicap Chase at Cheltenham the month previous.

Several others will also have their eye on the prize in the 16:05, including Landofsmiles (SP), who won at Uttoxeter when last seen 22 days ago, and Definite Plan, who was a solid third of 14 in a handicap chase at Killarney 28 days ago.
