Windsor Tips: Buick booking should be taken seriously

Windsor Tips: Buick booking should be taken seriously

Windsor stages a seven-race Flat card on Monday evening. The first race gets underway at 17:45, which is one of five handicaps, and concludes at 20:45.

With good to firm ground the going description, there are plenty of runners taking their chance and the feature on the card comes at 19:45, the Fitzdares Sprint Series Qualifier Handicap.

We have picked out three fancies to enjoy the evening’s action, which includes a handicap debutant from a powerful yard.

Windsor Betting Tips:

  • 17:45 – Sabah Al Ward @ 9/4
  • 19:45 – Youthful King @ 4/1
  • 20:45 – Greg The Great @ 9/2

Date: Monday 5th June
Time: First race at 17:45
Location: Windsor, Berkshire

17:45 – Sabah Al Ward @ 9/4

The booking of William Buick for the George Boughey-trained handicap debutant Sabah Al Ward looks particularly telling and the three-year-old filly gets the nod in what is a weak-looking contest.

Sabah Al Ward has switched yards from Richard Hughes to Boughey after three runs in maiden company, but this team has an excellent strike rate with unexposed horses stepping into handicaps.

The daughter of Showcasing has had a wind operation and returns from a 229-day layoff.

However, the Buick booking suggests she should be fully tuned up for her first start of the season and an opening mark of 63 could be extremely lenient.

On her first start over 5f, Sabah Al Ward finished fourth in a race won by the now 82-rated Sporting Hero.

She was beaten just under four lengths on that occasion and the second and third are now rated 87 and 75 respectively while this extra furlong also ought to play to her strengths.

19:45 – Youthful King @ 4/1

In a race where there doesn’t appear to be loads of obvious pace, a chance can be taken on the Luke Dace-trained Youthful King in a hope he attempts to make all under a positive ride from Marco Ghiani.

Youthful King has dropped 2Ib to a mark of 78 after finishing midfield on his seasonal bow at Newbury only 17 days ago.

However, he took a couple of runs to wind up last season before winning two handicaps, first over this course and distance before following up over the same trip from the front at Sandown.

Those wins came off marks of 71 and 74 and there is no reason why he can’t continue to progress into his four-year-old career under conditions that are proven to be to his liking.

20:45 – Greg The Great @ 9/2

A competitive closing handicap over a mile can go the way of Greg The Great, who runs off the same mark of 64 as when a fast-finishing second to Mabre at Newbury 17 days ago.

Greg The Great is versatile in the way he is ridden, which augurs well in this contest, and the four-year-old has won off this mark in the past having done so over this trip on quick ground at Chepstow last July.

With the Eve Johnson Houghton yard riding the crest of a wave – they have had four winners and a second from their last nine runners – Greg The Great looks sure to run well.
