The Serie A season has reached its final set of fixtures and it could turn out to be a quiet end to the domestic campaign for Sassuolo and Fiorentina, who clash at Mapei Stadium on Friday night.

Sassuolo head into the contest sitting 13th in the table, safe from relegation but unable to finish in the European positions, while ninth-placed Fiorentina can’t finish higher than eighth and their focus will be on the upcoming Europa Conference League final.

With nothing to play for other than a slightly higher finish in the standings, this encounter could turn out to be a dull affair and it is one that may not produce much in terms of goalmouth action.

Fiorentina are 7/5 to pick up the victory, the draw is priced at 5/2 and Sassuolo are 6/4 to claim the spoils, but it is hard to back a winner with any confidence and it may prove more prudent to look in the goals market instead.

Sassuolo’s season has ended in a bit of damp squib and they are without a win from their last five matches – losing three and drawing two – while they haven’t won either of their last two home assignments.

The Black and Greens have struggled at the back and their record of 58 goals conceded is the fifth-worst in the division, while their tally of 46 goals scored is the joint-eighth lowest.

Alessio Dionisi’s side have failed to keep a clean sheet in their last seven outings, highlighting the frailties at the back, but they may be spared a hammering by visiting Fiorentina.

The Purples defeated Roma 2-1 last time out, that coming after the Coppa Italia final defeat to Inter Milan, and that immediate response will have pleased manager Vincenzo Italiano.

However, Italiano is expected to make several changes to his starting XI with the Europa Conference League final against West Ham United on 7th June taking precedence over the league.

This could lead to a disjointed performance from the visitors, while any first-team players that are picked are unlikely to be busting a gut with that final in Prague on their minds.

With neither side having any major incentives to play for in terms of the league, this could turn out to like a pre-season friendly and goals may be hard to come by in this one.

Backing under 2.5 goals, which has landed in four of Sassuolo’s last six home assignments and Fiorentina’s last two away Serie A encounters, looks to be the value play here at 13/8.
